When working with website clients, I primarily help them launch from the ground up for the first time OR help them redesign an existing website for a rebrand.

I’m the person who’s really helping them in the initial launch phase, but there’s something not talked about enough…

Your website isn’t just something you launch once and call it a day. Instead, it’s supposed to grow, evolve, and change as your business grows, evolves, and changes.

Continuously updating your website with fresh content is key!

This includes adding any new brand photos when you can, editing the copy when needed to make sure it’s aligned with your overall message at all times, and on a more consistent level, it also means creating valuable content and resources on your website.

As business owners, we are so easily pulled into the sea of social media and often believe those channels are where we should show up to add the most value.

And trust me, I’ve definitely fallen victim to that at different points in my business.

But the reality is, you don’t own those channels like you own your website.

If you want to have more authority over your content to ensure it lives in a place that will NEVER expire, you want to make sure your content is being housed in a place where you have full ownership…

which is ultimately the website you worked really hard (and maybe paid a lot of money) to build and launch. ď»ż

How Blogging Increased My Traffic & Leads

So, what exactly does that look like? BLOGS!

And I know what you might be thinking… blogs?? Are those still relevant?

Yes, they 100% are and I’ve got stats to back it up!

Before we get to those though, I want to share 4 ways that blogging in your business can boost your traffic and increase leads.

4 Ways Blogging Can Boost Your Website Traffic and Increase Leads

Search Engine Optimization

When you launch a website into the world, you ultimately want it to get found right? Well, that doesn’t just happen by chance!

There are certain strategies you can implement to make sure your website populates in certain search results, with the main strategy being SEO – search engine optimization.

And guess what? Blogs are one of the biggest contributing factors to boost your SEO!

By consistently publishing high-quality content that targets relevant keywords and topics, blogs can improve your website's search engine rankings, meaning more visibility, leading to increased organic traffic.

Establishing Authority

As a business owner, there’s a good chance that you want to be seen as an authority figure in the eyes of your audience.

There are various ways you can make that happen, but from personal experience, I’ve seen that by consistently providing informative and valuable content through blogs, you grow authority in your industry.

Over time, people grow to know you as a go-to person for specific education and information, which results in more eyes on your content, increased leads, and eventually more sales.

Building Trust and Credibility

In addition to establishing authority in your industry, your blog content can also be the thing that builds trust and credibility for your audience, making them more inclined to buy from you in the future.

In the world of online business, people are being fed content and introduced to thousandssss of new people on the internet daily. And when it comes to buying from someone, they want to know that they can trust the person and that the person is credible.

Your blog content gives you a chance to share your expertise in a way that is valuable for your audience while also helping them get to know you on a deeper level.

And the more consistent your content is, the more they can see that you’re serious about what you do, you can and want to help them, and you are someone they can trust to do it.

Conversion Opportunities with Strategic CTA’s

One of the reasons I LOVE creating content for my website (more than for social media) is because you’re able to strategize every step of the way and really guide your audience into the next best decision for them.

Let’s be real: social media is crowded and there are a lot of actions someone can take. They can like, comment, share, DM you, click the link in your bio… and then choose what actual link to click.

It’s a little exhausting as a consumer, isn’t it?

Well, when you create content on your website, specifically in the form of blogs, you have the ability to strategically link to other relevant pages on your website and guide your readers toward certain conversions.

And no, those conversions don’t always have to mean a paid offer. It could mean subscribing to your newsletter, reading another relevant blog post, or contacting you for more information.

Ultimately, you get to determine your goals for your website and can then work to create blog content that directly connects to those goals.

Now back to my personal experience with all of these things…

My Results From Consistent Blogging In My Business

But first a backstory… in December of 2022 I really started to feel the pull to start implementing blogging in my business again.

I had outsourced this work prior and received less than ideal work, so I was convinced that it was just something I would have to do myself.

The only problem was, I really didn’t have the time to do it myself… so, I never did it.

Luckily, my internet world collided with Natty Writes and I decided to place my trust in yet another contractor to see if we could make this part of my business come back to life!

And when I say that I was BLOWN AWAY, not only by the work I received but by the results that came from it… holy cow. 🤯

If you’re on the fence about implementing blogs in your business and adding them as a core component of your website, let me be the first to say: IT. WORKS.

And yes, I have the proof to back it up. ⬇️

Let me preface this by saying – all of the data I’m about to show you is all ORGANIC traffic – I’ve not implemented ANY paid advertising.

I started adding consistent blog content to my website in January of 2023 and the year comparison looked like this:

Engagement Overview

That’s a 211.4% increase in engagement time, meaning the time a user spends on my website.

That’s pretty amazing in and of itself, but what blew me away the most? The fact that my NON-BLOG pages were also seeing an increase in traffic:

A 1,207.69% increase on my
About page alone?!?!

Non-Blog Pages; About Page

And a 1,777.78% increase on my Services page!

Non-Blog Pages; Services Page

This is proof that blogging isn’t *just* about providing information and teaching someone how to do something.

While that’s great too (and you do want to do this through your blog content), it’s also about building brand trust like I mentioned above and strategically guiding your website visitors to other relevant pages on your site, which can ultimately lead to converting sales!

After seeing stats like this, of course I was interested in what was driving the most traffic to my site as a whole… and wouldn’t you know that ORGANIC SEARCH (aka Google) was the biggest driver.

This is the power of using blogs to boost your SEO!

I saw a 3,836.2% increase in organic search traffic from 2022 to 2023 and the MAIN difference is that I added blogs back to my website!

So, getting users to your site is one thing, but I was also interested in seeing how I was retaining those users and if I was attracting NEW people along the way.

When I started blogging consistently, I noticed a 2,314.3% increase in NEW users and a 3,455.6% increase in RETURN visitors compared to when I wasn’t blogging.

Retention Overview

Overall, there was a 2,376.79% increase in users compared to not blogging!

Increase in Users

And lastly, just for fun, this is a stat pulled from Dubsado that shows that next to repeat business, Google is the TOP lead generator for me.

Which means not only is my site something that simply exists on the internet… it’s also something that is actively getting found. Which is exactly what we want when we launch your site into the world!

I don’t say all of this to toot my own horn. That’s NOT what this is about! This is simply to show you that how you use your website matters.

Yes, the initial creation and launch is important (and I LOVE helping people with that), but how you continue to use your website after it’s launched is just as important.

Blogging is something I plan to keep doing for my business. I encourage you to consider what it can look like for you as well!

The coolest part? YOU get to choose what blogging consistency looks like. You don’t have to do it daily or weekly if you don’t want to. The key is to simply find a rhythm that works well for you and your business and make it a core part of your content marketing strategy.

And if you don’t know what that should look like for you, well… I know a girl!

Before working with Natty, I felt so annoyed that I had all these ideas but not enough time to execute them! After we started working together, I felt so relieved to find someone who gets the type of content and writing style that matches with the rest of my website copy and brand messaging.

Outsourcing something like this CAN work and the results that you receive from it might just blow you away. 🎉

Your designer friend always,

Deciding to work with a brand and website designer for your business is a BIG deal! It’s a huge step for your business and it’s one of those investments that will keep serving you for years to come. Your brand as a whole is the overarching entity that people recognize and identify you with – and it’s not a tangible product or service. Instead, it’s a mixture of visuals and feelings working together to create an experience with every touchpoint of your business to impact the perception that people have of you and your business. This means that your brand is NOT just your logo, color palette and fonts – even though all of those things play an important role. Your brand IS a an all-encompassing combination of: what you stand for and why the words, phrases and tone of voice you use how people feel when they interact with you, your team, your website and even your social presence all design elements (and the strategy and deeper meaning behind them) Sometimes people find that creating a brand and website that incorporates strategic design is hard to do on their own, so it’s very common to outsource this piece of your business. But just because you outsource, that doesn't mean that you aren’t a major part of the process! Oftentimes as a business owner, you know what you want your brand and website to look and feel like, but you might have trouble bringing it to life. This is where a brand and website designer comes into play. Together, you can work to bring to life the picture that’s in your head in a way that your audience immediately feels drawn and connected to. As a client, there is a way to work with your brand and website designer to make this happen effectively and one of the best ways this happens is through the feedback that you deliver throughout the entire process. In this blog post, you’ll learn effective ways to work with your brand and website designer to get the result that you’re really hoping for AND you’ll learn how to provide effective feedback so that the process goes smoothly from start to finish.

As a brand and website designer, I have the pleasure of meeting a lot of new people online, thanks to our friend Instagram and other social platforms. I find that to be super normal for a lot of online business owners and service providers because the concept of working with ANYONE across the world is pretty amazing. As I’m riding bikes with my kids in our neighborhood in Ames, Iowa, a client of mine could be waking up to their ocean view in California or heading into their office in New York City. It’s so cool to me that we can so easily be connected to people who live such different lives from us. With that, however, I knew that when I started my business I didn't want to lose the local aspect. I love where I live and there are people right down the road who own amazing businesses that I also want to support and be a part of. So even with the boom of online business and the ability to work with literally anyone in the world, my heart is in Iowa, specifically our small town of Ames, and I strive to give back to my community year round through my design work. If you’re an online business owner or service provider and you have gotten swooped up in the online or digital aspect without paying much attention to your local community, I encourage you to consider how you can get involved and support those businesses, too. Because while some of my most favorite clients (and even some of my best relationships) have been cultivated online, there’s just something about being involved with your local community that the online world can never replace. Many local businesses are the ones I’ve been going to for the last decade. They’re the places filled with people who know my name and face and go out of their way to serve me specifically. They’re the places that make our town what it is and I know that my life in Ames wouldn’t be the same without them. I’d be willing to bet that a lot of the same is true for your local community too, so if you’re looking to get involved locally, but aren’t exactly sure how, there’s a few things I encourage you to seek out.
