6 Subtle Signs Your Website’s Ready for a Comeback
Color block of green and pink

Doesn’t it feel like yesterday when your website launch day was absolute perfection? You poured your hard work, heart, and soul into every page. Everyone was so excited to come visit your fresh new website.

Then somehow, you blinked…and things that were working years ago aren’t quite hitting the same.

If you’ve been wondering whether it’s time for a glow-up, upgrade, refresh, or (my personal favorite) comeback…

Okay, maybe you’re channeling your inner LL Cool J with the “don’t call it a comeback” line.

But regardless of what you call it, here’s the truth: websites, just like businesses, evolve.

Which means you’ve evolved and that's a good thing worth celebrating.

Honestly, though, your website's comeback just sounds way cooler than “time for an upgrade.” So for that reason alone… I’m sticking with it.

Here are seven clues your website might be ready for its own comeback.

Many small things add up, so consider this list and see which ones resonate with you to help you determine whether a refresh is right for you.

1. Your brand has evolved, but your website missed the memo. 🗒️

Like I said before, you’ve grown and your business has matured. You’re services and refined SOPs have brought you confidence along the way, too!  But, last year’s “outfit” isn’t cutting it.

Don’t fret, though. This doesn’t mean you have to throw your brand in the trash (unless you want to). Maybe your offerings have shifted, or part of your audience you’ve outgrown needs a messaging adjustment.

💬 Ask yourself:

  • Does my website still represent the version of my business I’m proud to show off?
  • Does it attract the same type of client I actually want to work with today?
  • Would someone new visiting my site instantly “get” what I do now? Or what I used to do?

Sometimes, a few design tweaks or updated copy sections make your site feel aligned again, without starting from scratch.

2. You’re not getting the same engagement or inquiries. 🤔

Your inbox used to be full of inquiries and your contact form was your best friend. But lately, not so much.

Sometimes engagement dips because offerings or seasons change. But if this has been going on for a while, it’s likely because your website no longer sparks that excitement with your visitors anymore.

💬 Ask yourself:

  • Have my website inquiries slowed down?
  • Does my website copy feel stagnant and not-so-inspiring to my visitors?
  • Do my calls to action feel exciting and clear, or are they generic and easy to skip?

Don’t forget that your website is your best salesperson, and if she’s underperforming, updated copy and a better website journey might be just what you need. Your website reports and analytics help us get the bigger picture of what’s going on here, too. Give those a look to check up on your engagement and key metrics.

3. Your competitors just made big moves and you’re still rocking the same design. 🤟

I’ve been there myself. When a competitor launches a brand-new website, yours can instantly give off “outdated vibes”.

While you don’t want to copy trends, you still want to be relevant and find your own wow-factor that sets you apart from your competitors. When everyone else raises the bar, visitors subconsciously start to expect that same standard everywhere.

💬 Ask yourself:

  • When I look at competitor websites, does mine still feel as polished and current?
  • Would a new customer scrolling through our site instantly see the difference?
  • And is that difference in a good way? Or a bad way?

You don’t (necessarily) need to reinvent your brand, just remind your audience that you’re right up there too, with the latest and freshest content and modern user experience.

4. Your website isn’t keeping up with how people find businesses now. 🤖

It’s literally everything people are talking about. AI tools like Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and other voice assistants are rapidly changing the way people discover websites and local businesses.

These tools read your site differently from how Google does. These AI tools are scanning your site with different “read tools” to decide whether your site is relevant enough to be important.

If you haven’t been paying attention to SEO or AIO in the last six months, it’s very likely missing key AI and Google tools that help it recognize you.

💬 Ask yourself:

  • When was the last time my site’s SEO or content structure was reviewed?
  • Is my site clear enough that an AI or search engine could easily summarize what I offer?
  • Am I still showing up in searches for my services and/or location?

A few behind-the-scenes updates can help AI find and understand your site, so you show up in the places your future customers are actually looking.

5. You’re missing out on new automation or integration tools that save you time.

This is a really big one to me, friend. If you’re still manually replying and sending separate booking links, there are so many amazing integration options that can make your website work for you!

Scheduling, lead generation, blogging engines, chat features, maps, and much more tells your customer you're keeping up and still relevant. And for you, utilizing tech keeps the focus on your day-to-day real work.

💬 Ask yourself:

  • Am I manually repeating the same tasks that could be automated on my site?
  • Does my site connect with the tools I use daily (like my CRM, scheduler, or email list)?
  • Is my current system easy for clients to use or would there be a simpler, more user-friendly way to do it?

When your website runs like a well-oiled machine, you spend less time chasing admin and more time serving your dream clients.

6. Your site doesn’t feel as interactive or innovative. 🔆

Today the internet is incredibly interactive. Between motion animations, video, custom experiences or even quizzes or guided forms, websites that ask questions and put you into an immersive experience provide unforgettable online experiences.

💬 Ask yourself:

  • Do visitors know where to click next, or do they seem to drop off fast?
  • Does my site guide people toward what they need, or leave them guessing?
  • Would adding a resource page, an interactive element or a quiz make things easier?

And if any part of you feels embarrassed to share your website link, that tells you right away that things need to change.

The invisible stuff 💎

Even if your site still looks nice, there are certain things you don’t need to know or care about that can be weighing it down in the background. I geek out on these things, so you don’t have to!

Here’s a shortlist of items that can make a big difference in search rankings, user experience and site speed:

  • Plugins stop playing nicely together
  • Hosting slows down
  • Google changes what it values in rankings (note: Google core updates happen 2-3 times per year!)
  • Analytics stop tracking the right data
  • Images or video files aren’t optimized
  • Tracking codes aren’t relevant anymore
  • Broken internal links pile up
  • Missing schema and metadata for AI and search
  • Site pages need reindexing
  • Website editor 3.0 is here, and you're still on 1.0
  • And much more.

Your website’s comeback era starts now!

If a few of these got you thinking, a comeback might be in order. Whether a redesign or a refresh (depending on your needs), it can make a world of difference.
